Happy St. Patrick's Day

I actually don't know if I have any Irish blood or not, I think not, but that doesn't stop me from celebrating this holiday. :) We started with green pancakes this morning, (me and the 8 children under 11 at my house for the week end). I made sure we all were representing our green too.

Did you know the official color was originally blue, but over the years evolved to green? true story. St. Patrick was a Christian Missionary that went to Ireland, and they loved him so much they made him a saint after he died on March 17th. But that wasn't his first time in Ireland, he as captured from Britain by Irish raiders at age 16 and taken as a slave to Ireland for 6 years, and God told him how to escape, he did and joined the Catholic church as soon as he returned home.

Don't forget your green, or you might get pinched! This is an American tradition that got started because if you wore green the Leprechauns couldn't see you, since they pinch anyone they see not wearing green.

And if you think you are eating a traditional Irish meal when you sit down to your corned beef and cabbage meal, think again. The cabbage is traditionally eaten with Irish bacon (whatever that is), but poor Irish immigrants couldn't afford it so corned beef was the cheaper substitute picked up from Jewish immigrants.

Hope everyone is and will have a lucky day!
