San Diego Vacation

In August we met my parents in San Diego, CA for some much needed R&R. We mainly beached it, but loved every minute of it! My parents flew in late Friday night, Dave picked them up and the next day the boys woke up to Grandma and Granddad! They were super excited! As tradition we went to the swap mart Saturday morning. We all got some fun things. Skateboards for the boys, yummy fruit, silly umbrella hats, (sorry no pictures of those since I have yet to get the pictures from my moms camera), socks for Dave, and some jewelry for my mom. Then a great bbq lunch and home for naps, yeah right! So after a failed nap attempt, we went to the beach. Grandma & Granddad graciously agreed to watch a sleeping Owen. I tried body surfing, and I must not have done it right since it didn't hurt (poor Dave was rubbed raw!), and I didn't see the appeal, I just kept thinking "there could be sharks out here."

Sunday was great all 3 hours of church, and I wish I could say it was all for the spiritual upliftment, but truth be told it was great to have two hours of free babysitting. But church was great and I got to sit by my honey since third hour was combined. Then a quick lunch and off to the Temple. I love, love when you come zipping along on the free way and boom! There is this majestic white work of architectual wonder. Beautful! Took some scenic pictures, and left since it turned out that we shouldn't have been able to get in, but some guy there left the gate open since he was only going to be a minute. Nice for us! I think this is the night we had a prime rib dinner, my dad does the best prime rib! Yum!

Monday we went to a less crowded beach to find sea shells. It turned out to be a lucky beach, Dave found a little sand crab that Seth deemed his pet. My dad learned how to find several sand crabs at once from a guy who uses them as bait, a bigger black crab, and $10 in the ocean. My mom found a couple whole sand dollars, very rare. Owen didn't get sick from all the sand he ate. And we didn't get too badly sunburned even though I forgot my sunblock!
But the crabs were the best entertainment, only because of the boys' reaction to them. Seth loved his little sand crab, he named him Carl, and put him in a bucket and gave him water and sand and rocks and shells ect. . . and never left his side. Then along comes this big ol' black crab that my dad found (he got pinched pretty good holding on to him, but he loves his grand kids!). We introduced him to Carl, and Seth flips out, so scared of the big nasty looking thing and sure it was going to eat Carl! Finally we put them in separte buckets, since Isaac thought Charlie (the black crab), was cool and preferred him over small boring Carl.
When it was time to go, and set the crabs free, we narrowly escaped drama by explaining to Seth if we took the crabs home their families would be so sad! Great day with great fish tacos to finish it up!

Tuesday was time to go home, we packed up, dropped my parents off at the airport and headed home. So fun can't wait for another beach vacation!

What a fun vacation! That is so great that you found sand dollars, I've never even found cool shells. Cute family picture by the temple too.

Looks like fun! I love San Diego and nothing beats changing sandy diapers...sand is good fiber and a lot cheaper than Metamucil...

p.s. your boys are DARLING!
