Happy to be out of the summer heat, and into the dirt! We "hiked" (and I use the term very loosely since it was only 1 1/2 mile round trip), up to Mt Orr. It was a beautiful view up there, and we had some fun firsts for all of us along the way.
Fun first: a happy baby in the back pack the whole way, even right before he conked out, he was happy.Fun first: seeing a horny toad the size of this sucka' we have seen them before once or twice, which is always a nice treat since they are endangered, but not one this big. I literally almost stepped on it, I stopped only when what I thought was another rock moved out from under my foot, then Dave caught it with ease, they are so slow, which maybe explains why they are endangered.
Ahhh, lunch time. Nothin beats PB and J in mountains!
No, thats not the bird, it was bunny ears, you just can't see my other finger! But moms lame gesture a side, didn't our photographer Seth do a great job with this picture!
Fun first: seeing about a zillion lady bugs all together. There were piles upon piles of these bugs! They were also all over the walls of the utility equipment rooms up there, seriously zillions! Dave found a few stowaways at home on him, I guess thats what you get for practically rolling in them, j/k, and I found a lone lady bug in my house 3 days later!
All that on the wall that isn't white wall, are clusters of lady bugs. Ranger Rob (who lives up there), said around this time of year you practically need a head net to keep from breathing them.
Yeah, we climbed that thing, kids and all. Was Dave a bit of a basket case, yes!
The view from Ranger Rob's forest fire look out station, awesome right. He had a bunch of binoculars and topographical maps. He was happy to see kids, he said he doesn't see them much up here, (I'm guessing it's either because they are too intimidated by the height of the tower, or they're parents are, it's pretty up there!). We got a bunch of Smokey the bear, don't play with matches stuff! :)
So fun, and still had time to come home and have a little date night, what a great day!!!
