Gory Details

Well, I had a baby! As a planned c-sections November 21st 5:30am. It turns out even if a Dr would have taken a chance on another attempted v-back, it wouldn't have worked out anyway since Owen decided he wanted to be right side up like the rest of the world, breech. Can't say I blame him and it explains a lot about my bruised ribs on my left side only. I got all "preped" and asked the 101 questions including "do you have any loose fillings or crowns?" and my favorite "do you want your catheter in before or after anesthesia?" (duh!!!) At this point I told the nurse that seemed like a no brainer, and she replied "some people don't come in with brains" Ha!

Then I walked to the surgery room after my Dr made his debut with apparently much need starbucks (should I have been worried?). Got a spinal tap, fun stuff, the local to numb my back always makes me jump (ouch!). Then I get to lie down in what I call airplane position, on back- arms out to side, and they strap me down, at least at this point I get those warm blankets from heaven! The veil go up and then the fun begins.

Now some of you might think I am crazy, but a few weeks ago I asked my Dr if there could be a mirror arranged for me to see what was going on. Unfortunately no, was the answer but as I lay there looking up I noticed I could see a pretty good reflection of what was happening in the light fixture above the operation site. Cool, not perfectly clear but good enough. Weird to see what one might see on the discovery channel happening to myself, but I did get to see my baby coming out. Other then that I'll spare you the gory details except to say when I saw my uterus on my abdomen, and Dave and baby were not there to keep my mind off it I did start to get a little sick and had to turn away. But to be fair I usually get sick sooner then this point so maybe seeing it helped keep my mind off of being sick. The last ten minutes were torture, followed by another 20-30 minutes of torture in the form of uncontrollable shakes while I got poked and prodded and moved from one bed to the next, not very gently might I add. Oh well, it just confirmed the fact that I indeed did get to resemble a beached whale! Thanks to Dave's parents who tolerated Dave and the boys at their house while I was in the hospital since Mesa is closer then Queen Creek.

All in all great nurses! funny aids, all were slightly more strange then the one before, and I got to come home 4 days later. Home has been great. My parents came tues. night and took awesome care of me and the boys. They treated us to a fabulous Thanksgiving feast and I got to keep all the left over turkey!!! :) Thanks a ton Mom and Dad!!! Dave has been a champ too doing all my bending over ect. . .

Now I am looking forward to Christmas and the lights on the house and a good jog! All in good time right!

Congrats on the new baby.. and for those of us who have c-sections... its all to fresh to want to even think to have another. I will remind myself not to look up and see the images in the lights!! I too hated the waiting process. I only threw up when they give you that nasty stuff to clean out your stomach. Glad your parents came for thanksgiving.

I still can't get over my c-section and don't want another but we will see in good time if we have another. I said absolutely not right after and then now its a maybe a couple years down the road. I love the story. And the questions are funny?

If having kids were left to us boys, I don't think we'd go though with it. You're braver than me. It was nice seeing you last week.

Julie, what a tropper! What a cute family you have. Congradulations on such a handsome little (or should I say big) baby. He still looks tiny to me. Those boys have such a good Mom. Make sure you tell them how wonderfully lucky they are!

Julie!, congrats! I loved reading your story, it sounds like a mix of my two c-sections. The shakes...oh, they are the worst! Did I ever tell you that while I was opened up, after Ashton was out, that the doc called Jared over to look at my uterus and other organs just lying there on my stomach? :) The doctor said to Jared, "now you really know your wife inside and out." What a goof!
I'm glad it all went well, as well as planned c-sections are. I can't wait for the next one! j/k.
Luckily, it hasn't snowed since Christmas, but I still don't think I'll be able to come visit anytime soon. :(
I miss you though!! Hope all is well with THREE BOYS! I can't imagine!
